• Clean instruments immediately after use to prevent blood, tissue, or debris from drying on the surface.
• Wash using a neutral pH enzymatic detergent and a soft nylon brush. Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, or harsh chemicals.
• Rinse thoroughly with distilled or demineralized water to minimize mineral deposits and corrosion.
• Dry completely before sterilization or storage, paying special attention to hinges, joints, and serrations where moisture can accumulate.
• Lubricate hinged and moving instruments regularly with a medical-grade, steam-permeable instrument lubricant to ensure smooth operation.
• Sterilize using validated autoclave procedures or other approved sterilization methods according to healthcare facility protocols and the instrument’s intended use.
• Store instruments in a clean, dry environment with tips and cutting edges protected from impact or contact with other instruments.
• Inspect instruments before each use for wear, corrosion, misalignment, or damage. Remove any defective instrument from service until repaired or replaced.
• Do not expose stainless steel instruments to bleach, strong acids, high-chloride solutions, or prolonged soaking, as these may cause staining, pitting, or corrosion.
