Description

Coleman Root Elevator Fig. 1 is a precision dental instrument designed for controlled elevation of teeth and tooth roots during dental extraction procedures. The MMI-53-405-01 features a straight, broad working end that provides a defined contact surface for controlled engagement with tooth and root structures.

The Fig. 1 configuration has a 5.8 mm working-end width, making it a broad-profile Coleman root elevator. The corresponding KLS Martin instrument, reference 42-405-01-07, is specifically listed with a 5.8 mm width.

Its straight working configuration allows direct positioning of the elevator against the tooth or root. The broad working end provides increased contact coverage, while the tapered transition toward the shaft supports controlled placement during elevation procedures.

The robust shaft and ergonomic handle provide stable handling and controlled manipulation. Manufactured from surgical grade stainless steel, the instrument is designed for durability, corrosion resistance and repeated professional use. The polished surface supports efficient cleaning and maintenance, while the reusable construction makes it suitable for standard sterilization protocols.

To maintain the performance, appearance, and service life of your stainless steel dental and surgical instruments, follow these care guidelines:

  • Clean instruments immediately after use to prevent blood, tissue, or debris from drying on the surface.
  • Wash using a neutral pH enzymatic detergent and a soft nylon brush. Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, or harsh chemicals.
  • Rinse thoroughly with distilled or demineralized water to minimize mineral deposits and corrosion.
  • Dry completely before sterilization or storage, paying special attention to hinges, joints, and serrations where moisture can accumulate.
  • Lubricate hinged and moving instruments regularly with a medical-grade, steam-permeable instrument lubricant to ensure smooth operation.
  • Sterilize using validated autoclave procedures or other approved sterilization methods according to healthcare facility protocols and the instrument’s intended use.
  • Store instruments in a clean, dry environment with tips and cutting edges protected from impact or contact with other instruments.
  • Inspect instruments before each use for wear, corrosion, misalignment, or damage. Remove any defective instrument from service until repaired or replaced.
  • Do not expose stainless steel instruments to bleach, strong acids, high-chloride solutions, or prolonged soaking, as these may cause staining, pitting, or corrosion.
  • Use each instrument only for its intended purpose to preserve precision, functionality, and patient safety.
